Case Study: New Abbotsford Transit Depot Fencing and Gates

During 2020, over three phases, Rite-Way Fencing in Abbotsford completed fencing at the new Transit facility on Gladys Avenue, near Highway 11. The facility was recently opened by BC Transit, and we're proud to share more information about this higher security commercial chain link fence, gates and associated products.

The Project

This project was large, but relatively straightforward. We were fortunate to have a level site and favourable digging conditions to work with, which made the installation of about 2,300 linear feet of 8' high commercial chain link fence with three strands of barbed wire much easier.

The project also included several chain link gates, and two 8' high, 30' wide Alpha Cantilevers, supplied by Wallace Perimeter Security.

Our crews also supplied and installed gate automation, goosenecks, and 49 concrete filled bollards with concrete fill and covers.

Because this was a completely new facility, and to accomodate work by the general contractor and others, work on this chain link fence was completed over three phases, starting in spring of 2020, and wrapping up in winter of 2020. All of the Rite-Way Fencing phases were completed on time and within budget.

Challenges and Solutions

While this chain link fencing project was generally one of the easier to install, we were faced with installation adjacent to wetlands on the south and east fence lines.

This did require an environmentally aware installation program, which our crews successfully adhered to without incident. Rite-Way Fencing does have documented environmental management plans, which are adjusted on a site by site basis, and can be made available on request.

Transit Fencing Solutions

In addition to higher security chain link fencing, like the fence we installed for BC Transit here, we offer a wide range of fencing solutions for all types of transit and transportation facilities.

We've supplied and installed turnstiles in Alberta, done extensive welded mesh fence installation in Toronto and other parts of Ontario, and installed non mettalic fencing around airports. We design custom solutions for all of these types fo facitlities, and work with clients in the public and private sector to provide effective perimeter security solutions for every kind of site imaginable.

So if you're planning to fence a transit depot, an airport or anything else, contact your local Rite-Way Fencing branch and discuss what you need!
